DATA SCIENCE APPROACHES

Grand Challenges India (GCI) has been working on health-related data science approaches as global experience has demonstrated convincingly that access to data leads to breakthroughs in scientific understanding as well as to economic and public good, in addition to several benefits to civil society.

Data sharing enables data generated from one study to be used to explore a wide range of additional research questions, it increases statistical power and scientific value by enabling data from multiple studies to be combined that facilitate reproducibility and validation of research results and innovation of methods and tools for research and thus may result in amplifying the scientific value of data.

GCI has been engaging with Indian clinical research scientists, healthcare experts, and data scientists/data modelers to apply innovative data analytics solutions to existing data arising from multiple sources in India such as publicly available data, clinical research, cohort and survey studies and other related data sources. The approach has also encouraged innovative collaborations between public health researchers and data scientists.
