BIRAC’s 3rd Regional Centre

BIRAC Regional Bio-innovation Centre

 

BIRAC announces setting up of 3rd Regional Centre at Venture Centre, Pune. The regional centre is named as BIRAC Regional Bioinnovation Centre (BRBC) and is operational with effect from 28th March, 2018. BRBC is mandated to be a high quality national resource center to support and promote Entrepreneurship in Life Sciences. The centre would provide following services:

  • Venture Mentoring Service: High level mentor pool creation for networking and match making with prospective and experienced entrepreneurs.
  • Venture Base Camps: BRBC would run focused theme based camps to orient entrepreneurs to relevant activities facilitating product commercialization processes. Tentative themes include: Fund raising for Early stage (pre-POC) and Late Stage (Seed investment), Exit Strategy and M&A, Technology transfer and IP strategy, Regulatory processes and Certifications.
  • Regulatory Information and Facilitation Center: BRBC would facilitate a seamless, personalized approach for entrepreneurs in understanding the regulatory approval process for biotech products in India.
  • BioIncubation Practice School for western regions: The centre would provide comprehensive hands on experiential learning required for setting up/running of bio-Incubators in Tier II & Tier III cities nearby Pune.

About Venture Center:

Venture Center is a technology business incubator hosted by the CSIR-National Chemical laboratory.  It specializes in nucleating and nurturing inventive technology enterprises offering products and services exploiting scientific expertise in the areas of materials, chemicals and biological sciences and engineering. Over the past 5 years, VC has worked in close association with BIRAC for implementing BIG and SIIP programs. VC also hosts and runs 2 phases of BIRAC-BioNEST supported Bioincubator.

Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) is a Public Sector Undertaking set up by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India as an Interface Agency with the aim of strengthening and empowering emerging Biotech enterprises to facilitate them in undertaking strategic research and innovation that addresses nationally relevant product development needs. BIRAC is playing an important role in the implementation and delivery of the flagship programmes of the Indian Government especially ‘Make in India’ and ‘Start-up India’ and has a crucial role in transformation of the Indian Bio economy to US$ 100 billion by 2025.
